Fast facts

First things first, the name of the product describes what it stands for. Philips OneBlade products combine versatility and simplicity in one product. This time, you get an electric shaver and beard trimmer, all in one gadget, all done by a single blade.

The first logical question is – can it shave and trim evenly? You should always be careful when buying hybrid/combo products. Due to the nature of their respective characteristics, they cannot always be perfect in everything they do.

The Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review in particular is a very reasonably priced product.

The Philips OneBlade can be used for dry or wet shaving. This means that you can simply turn it on and start shaving or trimming your beard, or you can use shaving cream for a more comfortable shaving experience.

Since it is completely water-resistant, you can shave while showering. This is a very convenient feature.

The blade itself is a bit small compared to the size of the handle, but it’s a very definite little triumph of industrial design. Unlike most electric shavers, this one cuts your hair while moving both forward and backward.

The shaver can be used to create the most precise mustache edges and comes with three different stubble-on trimming combs.

The shaving head needs to be replaced every 4 to 6 months, which is a convenient feature in terms of ergonomics and design but doesn’t fit well with the product’s overall affordability picture as these replacement parts don’t come cheap.

Charging the Philips Norelco OneBlade Electric Shaver is a very simple operation indeed It comes with a universal, multi-voltage charger that can be used anywhere in the world, but the charging process itself takes eight hours.

Once the battery is fully charged, it will give you enough juice for 45 minutes of operation. That should be enough to make all your facial hair magic shine, but again I couldn’t help but think that some quick charging option would have been pretty neat too.

Pros – Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review

  • Well-built and designed
  • Good for wet and dry shaving, fully waterproof
  • Can be used for shaving and trimming
  • Virtually no maintenance

Cons – Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review

  • Long battery charging
  • No fast charge option
  • Expensive replacement parts

For whom?

As shown by this Philips Norelco OneBlade review, it’s an innovative product with a lot of potential. It won’t break the bank but keep in mind that replacement shaving heads are fairly expensive and need to be changed every 4 to 6 months.

Also, if you have a really thick beard, you may struggle with the Philips OneBlade QP2520/70 at times, as it is a bit underpowered to deal with your hair and can be a bit too precise.

Other than that, this is a strong fine product, highly recommended for anyone who wants to try innovative and interesting new products.

Key Features – Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review

Inside the Philips Norelco OneBlade QP2520/70 boxes you will find a few straw combs in addition to the handle and replaceable blades that come in three different hair-trimming lengths – 3/64 inch, 1/8 inch, and 3/16 inch. Out of this listing are a battery charger adapter and an instruction manual.

When you put the real shaver to work, you begin to notice its unique features.

Traditional design made new

The Philips OneBlade shaver looks like a regular wet shaver, only electric. Characterized by a highly contrasting lime color against the usual glossy black and silver, it certainly looks promising.

Overall, it’s a modern and sleek design that should appeal to most people. The power button is seamlessly integrated into the handle and once you press it, you’re rewarded with a very satisfying click. Since the edges around the button are slightly recessed, you can’t press it by mistake.

The bottom edge of the handle has the indicator light, and the right side has the charger socket Around the handle, there’s a lime green rubber wrap that provides a very solid grip, even when you try to wet your arm or cover it in shaving foam.

Since the Philips OneBlade shaver is fully waterproof, the best place to test the grip provided by the lime green rubber wrap is under the shower.

Once you turn to the other side, there isn’t much to see apart from the basic specifications and their origins. The main attraction here is definitely the shaved head.

Hair cut teeth

The shaving head is an impressive little piece of engineering. The blade has green-tipped “teeth” on the top and bottom. They move 200 times per second to protect the skin from the sharp blades and ensure that even the longest hairs are cut.

The bristles fall between the teeth and the blade so they don’t get pulled. Also, an important achievement is that such an assembly is available on both sides of the blade, so you can shave by moving both back and forth.

Needless to say, they are all made from hypo-allergenic materials so as not to cause any skin irritation or similar allergic reactions.

Between the blades is a metal plate with a cross-hatch pattern that provides an extremely smooth shaving experience.

The OneBlade QP2520 shaving head is disposable and sits neatly on a small plastic holder that makes it quite flexible to move around. Thanks to this, the shaver can follow the contours of your face.

Now, disposable heads are generally fine, but when you have to change them every 4-6 months they’re not good, and they’re not really cheap. This might put you off buying this product, but if you’re into new and innovative things, I don’t think it will.

The devil is in the detailing

The OneBlade Philips shaver isn’t very quiet when turned on, but the buzz it makes is pretty typical in this price range. It’s meant to be used to shave all the hair at skin level, trim beards with the three provided combs, and precisely trim your mustache, goatee, or sideburns. Yes, you can even use it for underarm areas and private parts.

When it comes down to shaving, it works well, but it’s far from perfect. It can’t really help but leave a little length, but on the other hand, it makes for a rather comfortable shaving experience.

If you have fair to medium hair, you should have no problem with the Philips Norelco OneBlade. Those with thick and hard beards may need to press harder. To them, this shaver will probably come off as a little underpowered.

As mentioned earlier, you can use the Philips OneBlade QP2520 to trim your beard using three accompanying combs that come in three different lengths – 3/64 inch, 1/8 inch, and 3/16 inch.

The comb attaches easily to the shaving head, but it cannot use the main advantage of a single-blade shaving head – back and front shaving.

As with shaving, trimming is best if you have fine to medium hair. Anything thicker than that won’t go easily. Also, combs also get stuck in the hair very easily, so you need to remove the hair.

When it comes to facial hair details and edges, the Philips OneBlade is a great performer. Remember, you can use both ends of the shaving head, so it offers more options than your run-of-the-mill electric razor.

Waited all night –

Charging the Philips Norelco OneBlade is really as easy as it gets It comes with an international, multi-voltage charger so you can use it virtually anywhere in the world. Just take the charger and plug it into the base located under the handle

The battery itself is NiMH and the bad news is that it takes eight hours to fully charge This means that it is better to leave it to charge overnight so that you can use it in the morning. Once fully charged, it will give you enough juice for about 45 minutes of good shaving.

When the battery is charging, the indicator will light up. The same indicator will light up to warn you when the battery is about to run out of juice.

Waterproof cleaningPhilips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review

The Philips Norelco OneBlade is completely waterproof, so it’s very easy to clean and maintain. Once you finish shaving or trimming your beard, rinse it under running hot water. The same goes for trimming combs

Short-term shaving heads

The disposable head needs to be replaced every 4 to 6 months, depending on how often you shave. This is really the most annoying problem with shavers. Two replacement heads essentially add up to the price of a whole new gadget.

Despite all its great features, it makes you wonder if it’s really worth that much.

The task of replacing the blade is also somewhat complicated to a certain extent. The blade should be ejected by pressing the green button directly below. The button feels kind of flimsy under your thumb, and you have to be really careful not to launch the single-blade shaving head across the room.

So, make sure you hold the single-blade shaving head with one hand and press the release button with the other hand.

Does anything else make it better?

Among other products on the market, one really stands out as an alternative, even if it’s a bit pricey – the Philips Norelco OneBlade QP6520/70, which also features the innovative OneBlade system.

It can also be used for shaving, trimming, and dealing with the fine ends of your facial hair. Compared to the QP2520 reviewed in this article, its bigger, more advanced brother offers a lot more, but at nearly twice the price.

The first thing you notice is a different design with an intelligent display that shows how much juice you have in your battery. Speaking of which, the battery is very powerful. It can last up to 90 minutes on a full charge and it only needs 60 minutes to fully charge.

On the other hand, it is not really cheap, and you have to replace the expensive shaving heads every 4 to 6 months. If you don’t really care about the price tag, this could be the perfect electric shaver for you. Still, I’d rather recommend the one I’m reviewing here at half the price.

Final verdict – Philips Norelco Oneblade Pro Review

When all is said and done, the Philips Norelco OneBlade is a great gadget It’s one of the more fun and innovative shavers out there, especially thanks to the head shave.

Unless your beard is really thick, you should have no problem shaving or trimming, especially considering the included trimming combs. But even if you like to sport an overwhelming beard, it should still be manageable, albeit with more effort on your part.

My only issues with it are the long battery charging and the rather high price of replacement shaving heads. If you have no problem with that and are willing to invest in a rather innovative gadget, this is the right electric razor for you.
